JOB DUTIES

Police personnel, using a community-policing approach, create and maintain a community environment which discourages and prevents crime by:
* Responding to requests for service
* Working with citizens to enforce state and local laws
* Investigating crimes and traffic crashes
* Patrolling assigned areas
* Apprehending and arresting of offenders; testifying in court
* Meeting with concerned citizens and community groups
* Working a 48-hour week, 8.5 hour days, with rotating days off (patrol officers only)
* Preparing hand-written or computer generated reports
* Planning and coordinating special events

REQUIREMENTS

* High school graduate or GED.
* Be a U.S. citizen between 20 and 35 years of age (must be 21 years of age at time of appointment)
* No felony convictions
* Good moral character

* Possess a valid Illinois driver’s license

* Qualify on written test, oral interview and physical agility test (POWER test)
* Pass a background investigation, psychological and medical evaluation
